Actividad minera, actores locales y planteamientos de desarrollo regional (Tarapacá 1880-1930)

Este artículo describe y analiza los planteamientos que buscaron vincular el tema del desarrollo regional y la actividad minera en el contexto de un intenso debate público llevado a cabo en la provincia de Tarapacá entre las décadas de 1880 y 1940. Especial énfasis se pone en aquellas ideas que manifestaron la necesidad de superar la renta salitrera fiscal, y por tanto la preponderancia de la minería del nitrato en la economía tarapaqueña, como también en aquellas propuestas que demandaron la articulación del sector minero local con una expansión agrícola a gran escala y un comercio interregional como fundamentos del desarrollo regional.
Abstract
This paper describes and analyzes the statements linking the topic of regional development and mining activity in the context of an intensive public debate that took place in Tarapaca province between 1880 and 1940. Ideas dealing with he necessity to increase the governmental nitrate rent and therefore, the importance of nitrate mining in Tarapaca economy, have a special emphasis, as well as the proposals that demanded the organization of the local mining sector with a large scale agricultural expansion and inter-regional trading as a basis for regional development.
